PJL Group is onsite in the thick of the Carrapateena Project which recently received the green light from the Oz minerals Board for more than $900 million worth of work.
PJL Group General Manager, Luke Buckland, explained the works will kick the development into high gear with the move touted by Oz Minerals as a stepping stone to bigger and better things for decades to come.

“The copper and gold project will be the second largest copper mine in South Australia, behind BHP’s Olympic Dam,” Luke outlined.

“It’s a milestone project that will create thousands of jobs during construction and a full-time workforce of up to 500.

“Construction begins with enabling infrastructure including the accommodation village and airstrip and continuing development of the dual access decline in the short-term. The mine is expected to start producing copper in late 2019.

“Carrapateena is a massive project. There has already been a significant amount of work on-site with the build of the decline and 2.5km of access tunnels, but the new approval will now kick works into high gear.”

The second phase (subject to mining lease approval) is scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2018 and includes construction of the processing plant and other above ground infrastructure, installation of the underground materials handling system, construction of the tailings storage facility, Western Access Road and power line.

“Going forward, PJL Group will be seeking to tender on the infrastructure works as the packages are made available later in the year,” Luke explained.

“Experience gained on the Sea Link project in Blayney and upgrades on conveyor systems across several client sites will set us in good stead to be competitive for further opportunities within the Carrapateena project.

“PJL Group has been steadily gaining experience within construction and infrastructure works across all sites since the completion of the Sea Link project in 2016.

“We continue to prove ourselves and showcase our diverse range of capabilities since commencing business as a mobile fleet repair specialist in 2006.

“We now have construction and all facets of fixed plant maintenance and repair in our extensive repertoire. We look forward to being able to further prove our expertise at Carrapateena. Exciting times ahead for PJL Group in South Australia.”
